Spanish Immersion

Spanish Immersion Program

Overview

What is Spanish Immersion?

Immersion education is an alternative educational model to provide students with fluency and literacy in two languages. In this program all students develop their skills to learn to read and write first in Spanish with the gradual addition of English.

All students in the Immersion Program receive the same curriculum as students throughout the district, except that they initially receive instruction first in Spanish for most of the day.

In the Immersion Program they receive instruction on the California State Standards in English as well as Spanish. Instruction is provided daily in both English and Spanish, and students interact in both languages.

The Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program integrates native English-speaking students and Spanish-speaking students learning English in the same classroom.

Program Goals

The goals of the program include:

  • Academic performance in English and Spanish
  • Language skills in English and Spanish for Spanish-speaking students AND for English-speaking students who want to learn Spanish as a second language.
  • Multicultural understanding.

Give your child the gift of a second language
